Salvation is not merely an improvement of the old life. It is the gift of a new life in Jesus Christ. God does not ask us to repair ourselves before coming to Him; He calls us to come honestly, receive His mercy, and trust the finished work of Christ.
Why salvation is necessary
Sin separates people from God and distorts the life He designed for them. Human effort, religious activity, good intentions, and personal discipline cannot remove guilt or produce spiritual life. The good news of the gospel is that God acted on our behalf. Jesus Christ came, died for our sins, rose again, and opened the way for reconciliation with God.
Salvation therefore begins with grace. It is received by faith, not earned as a reward. When a person turns to Christ in repentance and believes in Him, God forgives, restores, and welcomes that person into His family.
Repentance and faith
Repentance is a sincere turning of the heart from sin toward God. It is more than regret; it is a decision to surrender our direction and accept God’s rule. Faith is trusting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour—believing that His sacrifice is sufficient and that His resurrection gives us hope beyond the past.
This response can begin with a simple and honest prayer, but salvation is not produced by repeating special words. It is the heart’s genuine trust in Christ. God sees the person who comes humbly and receives that person with mercy.
What changes after salvation?
A believer receives forgiveness, a restored relationship with God, the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, and a new identity in Christ. Growth does not happen all at once, but a new journey begins. The Holy Spirit teaches, corrects, strengthens, and transforms the believer through Scripture, prayer, fellowship, worship, and obedience.
The past no longer has the final word. Shame is replaced by grace, spiritual death by life, and aimlessness by purpose. Challenges may remain, but the believer no longer faces life alone.
