We see Joseph sent to prison after being framed up by Potiphar's wife, and even while in prison, the favour of God upon his life still shone. In verse 21, we see the phrase, ".the LORD was with Joseph.and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison". Notice the word, "gave" which shows favour to be a gift.
A gift remains a gift so long as it's not available for/to everyone. For instance, we notice from the word of God that spiritual gifts are given differently and not publicly accessible. Since the word of God describes favour as a gift, we conclude that not everyone would be favoured.
Who would receive favour and why should the 'who' be the favoured one? The scripture above shows the precursor to divine favour which is, ".the LORD was with Joseph". There's a big difference between the LORD, the Lord and lords.
Let's look at the scripture below: Psalms 110:1 (1) The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool. In the above scripture, we see the Psalmist introducing two persons as LORD/Lord. The one, blessing is recognized as the LORD, and the one, being blessed as the Lord (notice the capitalization).
Who is the LORD and who is the Lord? Let's look at the new testament quotation of the above scripture below: Acts 2:34-36 (34) For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, (35) Until I make thy foes thy footstool. (36) Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Notice that the capitalization was equally maintained in verse 34.
However, the main information is seen in verse 36 where Peter swapped the identities of the LORD and the Lord with God and Jesus. So, God is the LORD, and Jesus, the Lord. We could more appropriately say, the Father is the LORD, and the Son the Lord.
The particular person who was with Joseph in prison was the LORD and not the Lord. I remind you of the fact that there are 2 covenants. The first is the old covenant which was of the LORD and the second covenant which is the new covenant is of the Lord.
There are many instances of the manifestation of the Lord in the old testament even though the covenant was of the LORD like we see below: Genesis 18:27 (27) And Abraham answered and said, Behold I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes: Genesis 19:18 (18) And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord: Genesis 20:4 (4) But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation? But there was no single manifestation of the LORD in the new testament. In a nutshell, it means that even though the first covenant was of the Father, yet the Son appeared all through that dispensation as much as the Father did.
However, when we stepped into the covenant of the Son, the Father ceased to appear. Why did the Son appear in the Father's covenant but the Father never appeared in the Son's covenant? Colossians 2:6-9 (6) As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: (7) Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. (8) Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. (9) For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
There's actually no need for the Father to manifest because the Father is also manifested by the Son bodily. Note that the old covenant brought physical blessings and the new covenant spiritual blessings. So, the Father blesses physically while the Son blesses spiritually.
The Spirit on the other hand makes all these blessings available everywhere. So, there's both a physical and spiritual blessing wherever the Holy Spirit is as He reveals the presence of the Father and the Son. By default, we're blessed with spiritual blessings in the heavenly places and not physical blessings.
Look at the scripture below: Ephesians 1:3 (3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: Spiritual blessings are DIRECTLY given, this is why you see the phrase, "hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings". But how about physical blessings? Look at the scripture below: 2 Peter 1:3-4 (3) According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: (4) Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
His divine power gives us all things that pertain to LIFE and GODLINESS. Life (Physical) and Godliness (Spiritual). It didn't say His divine power gave us life and godliness, but said it gave us things pertaining to or concerning.
Physical blessings are not directly supplied to us, but God makes available instruments by which they can be achieved. These instruments are similar to the instruments that made physical prosperity possible in the old testament and the major instrument is prophecy. Look at the scripture below: 2 Chronicles 20:20 (20) And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.
The prophetic anointing is one of the PERTAINING instruments for LIFE and tells us when to move physically and when to stay. We can track the physical will of God for our lives by leveraging on the prophetic and the good news is that the prophetic tells us that this is a day that marks the beginning of unusual favour.
