And in response to this, we went through the word of God and understood to a great degree what an open door actually means. We found the phrase, "open door" to mean, "opportunity". We also discovered that a door could be open but not appropriated.
This took us to what it means to appropriate an open door and the physical qualities needed for that to be possible. The statement, "I have set before thee" shows that even when God opens and sets a door, He simply places the door right in front of us. All that God can do as far as granting us an open door is concerned is to place the opened and set door before us; He would however not do anything to us.
This means that God's open-door operation is limited to getting the door open and set while ours is to consciously walk towards the door. In other to keep us on track, God places this door before and not behind us. The first implication of the door being before and not behind is that God would never grant us an opportunity that would cost us our salvation.
The word of God speaks strongly against anything that would make us compromise as seen in the verses below: Luke 9:62 (62) And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Hebrews 10:38 (38) Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. It's a known fact that just before a prophesied breakthrough, Satan normally fronts a counterfeit breakthrough before a child of God which if taken, leads to a separation between the individual and God.
Each time an opportunity presents itself for you, always cross-match the same with the word of God. If it violates God's word, then it certainly would lead to disaster in the long run. With the understanding that God places opportunities before and not behind us, what must we then do to appropriate them?
The first thing to note here is that in other to access anything before you, you must WALK towards it. So, how do we walk? Check the answer to this below: Galatians 5:16 (16) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
We only WALK when we are IN THE SPIRIT. So, a man/woman who is not IN THE SPIRIT stops walking and becomes stagnant. In other to walk in the Spirit, the Spirit(Holy Spirit) must first become an environment, and the individual would be submerged within this environment.
According to Genesis 1, there are three possible environments that permit existence and they are the air, the land, and the water. So, which of these can the Holy Spirit become? The Holy Spirit can be likened to water as seen below: John 7:37-39 (37) In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (38) He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (39) (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) The Spirit of God is not likened to air/wind in general terms, but is regarded as God's air/breath as seen below: Job 33:4 (4) The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
John 20:21-23 (21) Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. (22) And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: (23) Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained. So, the environment here becomes the Spirit of God manifesting as WATER. However, you cannot walk in/on water but can only swim therein.
So, let's look at the one time someone walked on water: Matthew 14:25-31 (25) And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. (26) And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. (27) But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. (28) And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. (29) And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. (30) But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. (31) And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
Two things made Peter walk on water and they were: Faith and focus. For focus to be possible, a direction must be known and then, faith makes you confident enough to follow the direction. Likewise, in other to walk in the Spirit, you must know where He's taking you to and have faith in the profitability of where He's taking you to.
No one can walk in or with God without the express voice of God. In our generation, people mistake serving God with walking with God. You can serve God by basing your actions on what His word says, but you would never walk with God unless He expressly speaks to you.
Divine opportunities would also not be appropriated unless you know what God is saying in express terms. God's word comes through the visions and revelations of God and must come not in parables but in very clear and explicit terms. note that divine opportunities would only be harnessed and appropriated by people who can clearly hear from God and can as well tell where God wants them to go. There's always the best step for every opportunity which only a spiritual eye can see.
